NBA Dismantles Its Own G-League Team After 4 Years

The National Basketball Association (NBA) secretariat will end its own operation of the G League team.

The NBA Secretariat announced on the 22nd that it will not operate the NBA G League Ignite team, which was operated to foster promising players, after the 2023-24 season in a press release under the name of Sharif Abdour-Rahim, president of the G League.

The G League Ignite will be disbanded after a game against the Ontario Clippers on March 28 local time.  토토사이트

Founded in April 2020, the G League Ignite Team was operated with the aim of allowing prospective players ahead of the NBA draft to learn skills, improve their adaptability to the professional stage, and earn income at the same time.

In the previous three seasons, he produced ten draft picks. Four of them were selected in the top 10.

Dyson Daniels (New Orleans), Jaylen Green (Houston), Scoot Henderson (Portland), and Jonathan Kuminga (Golden State) passed through the team.

Matas Buzellis and Ron Holland, who are likely top draft picks, played in the 2023-24 season.

Although the team was run for a good purpose, it was decided to disband after four years because of "change in the basketball environment," including NIL (Name, Image and Likeness) policies that enabled commercial activities of players from the NCAA.

"Four years ago we started this program to fill the void in the basketball world, and we are proud of the content that we have been able to contribute to this ecosystem," Abdour Rahim said of the decision.

"I thought it was the right time to move on to the next stage in line with changes in the environment of youth and college basketball," he said, thanking Anthony McCleese, the coaching staff under coach Jason Hart, and the players for their dedication to the Ignite team.

"The G League's commitment to fostering the NBA's top talents and helping them realize their dreams remains unchanged," he said, stressing that the G League will continue its role as an NBA sub-league.
